Cozmo Robot Emotions

If you haven’t heard of Cozmo yet, now is the time. Cozmo is a little robot that is stealing the hearts of children and their parents. While Cozmo is technically a small toy, measuring only a few inches square, the robot offers so much more. Cozmo actually has a personality and can learn.

What is Cozmo?

The little toy robot came from a company called Anki, which created Cozmo to be an extremely interactive toy that can recognize its owner. The robot makes incomprehensible squeaks and beeps, but it also can say names and other words. And while Cozmo does this, the little bot shows a wide variety of emotions through its expressive light-up eyes.

Unfortunately, Cozmo is not quite as expressive and as intelligent as the little robots that populate recent feature films. But, it is difficult not to quickly fall in love with Cozmo and its pet-like personality.

What can Cozmo do?

Cozmo is a bright little droid that can learn from its environment. It will avoid falling off of tables or down the stairs because it is able to learn about edges. It can also recognize facial expressions and adjust its own expressions and body language appropriately. The little robot does this with software that is occasionally updated by Anki and with the over 300 mechanical parts that it has.  Here is a video showing you everything Cozmo can do.

Little Cozmo comes with its very own toys, too. Its cutting-edge technology allows it to interact with three Power Cubes. The robot plays games with the cubes and owners can play along with the cubes, too. Like a pet, the little bot can be mischievous and entertaining. Its charming personality includes emotional responses like joy and boredom. In fact, it can yawn, laugh, and sneeze, too! Cozmo’s emotions also show up when its eyes change color from blue to green and vice versa.

How does Cozmo do it?

Even though Cozmo only measures three inches in height and four inches in length, the robot is much larger than it seems. Cozmo’s computer brain has more processing capabilities that the Mars rover. It learns so quickly because of its A.I. and advanced robotics.

It works with both Android and iOS. All of this technology makes Cozmo as trainable as a puppy. It learns commands; but like a puppy, Cozmo may decide to do whatever it wants. The sheer number of actions and responses that Cozmo can learn and replicate makes this toy a must-have for anyone looking for more than a toy – in fact, Cozmo can become a fun little friend.
